the THING

Hazel received the THING from her Uncle Tyler for her first birthday. For those of you that are not in the Calway family, the THING was created by Great Grammie Hazel in a ceramics class over 30 years ago. It is a puzzling piece of, er, abstract art. It has travelled through the channels of the extended Calway family, showing up as a "gift" at birthday celebrations, graduation parties, anniversary dinners, deployment ceremonies, and even weddings. It is usually greeted with a confused look and a humorous explanation from the presenter. Each recipient agrees to prominently display the THING in his or her home and subsequently begins plotting for the next opportunity to pass it on.


The THING has been rumored to be indestructible, so I gave my little demolition derby an opportunity to test that theory. Here are the photos:
