Mommy is in Kuwait

It was so sad to leave Chris and Hazel, another hard goodbye that I don't think I will ever get used to. I don't think poor Hazel totally understood what was going on, and it was very difficult to tell my little Princess goodbye. I know she'll be more than well-cared for with her awesome Daddy, Toots, Nana, Didin, and mBop's help!

After flying for 24 hours, I made it to Kuwait! It's about a million degrees here! Okay, actually it's only 120!

I miss you all so much already!

Beach Cruisin' the North Shore--Daddy's first post!!

With Mommy heading off to Iraq soon, Daddy is taking over the blog!  Please be patient as the posts improve.  I expect to be fully expert just as Mommy is arriving back home.

Before Mommy leaves, we are doing one of here favorite things--bike rides!!  Last week Dad went for a run while Hazel and Mommy rode bikes.  Hazel wasn't messing around.  It was a close race, but in the end Hazel had enough left in her legs to take over the peloton and win the race (notice her extreme focus face).  Hazel was born on 19 September and Lance Armstrong was born 18 September.  We think Hazel didn't want two great cyclists born on the same day!

Kolekole Pass

We hiked up to the top of Kolekole pass with our favorite photographer, Alisa Greig to take family portraits.  We first met Alisa for our engagement photos and then she did an amazing job capturing our wedding.  Now, a few years and three beautiful girls (two of them hers) later, we got together for another special event.

Caution: Daddy in Training

In preparation for Mommy's departure, Daddy step behind the cart and took his Commissary test.  He struggled a bit at first parallel parking the cart in the produce section, but once he regained his confidence, he was unstoppable.  He zoomed around store with the ease of an experienced shopper, scooping up all organic veggies, whole what bread products, and natural peanut butter.  In a surprising move, he skipped the junk food aisle, and even remember to grab Hazel's Fickin nuggets!  I am proud to say he passed with flying colors!

Go Daddy Go!

Any suggestions for a Daddy and Hazel blog title?  Please comment below!

Welcome to the Dark Side

In preparation for a long time without a salon to visit, I decided my hair should be little more natural.  Auntie GG came over and helped me make the big step.  We had tons of fun in the process.

I think it turned out rather nice.  What do you think?

Mahalo!

A huge mahalo to everyone who came out to my farewell party! We had a fabulous time and hope you did as well!

The two hula boys provided entertainment for the party.
T even taught Hazel some new moves!

We came away from the event feeling so lucky to have all of you amazing people in our lives.  In hardly any time at all we have forged friendships that will last forever.  I am personally comforted by the fact that Chris and Hazel have so many people willing to give them a hand in my absence.

We love all of the tips you left in Mommy and Daddy's Survival books!

Mommy Bear

Another deployment brings us back to the Build-a-Bear store this time for a Mommy bear.  Hazel had tons of fun and was an old hat at the bear stuffing station below.

Hazel was VERY excited to pick out a special outfit for her new bear.  She insisted some lovely sparkly jeans and a shiny princess shirt.

She also had to have a bear stroller and pushed it all over the mall!

Mommy's Farewell Party

We are sending Mommy off right, and you are all welcome to join us this Saturday, May 16th, at one o'clock in the afternoon at La Mariana Sailing Club Restaurant.

It's a family affair, so bring the whole gang!
It is a bit difficult to find, but if you get to Sand Island Access Road, then you will want to keep your eyes peeled for the sign above (take a right just before it to get there).

Click here for directions.   The address is 50 Sand Island Access Road.
If you haven't been here you've definitely been missing out!  It's a true old school Hawaiian Tiki lounge and the interior is full of hand-carved tikis, glass fishnet floats, and lovely paraphernalia from the Islands.

Please RSVP by commenting on this post by Thursday.  If you can't make it, feel free to put up some advice for either Mommy or Daddy during the deployment.

See you there!

Polo on the Beach

We had a lovely Sunday, which began with a hike and picnic at Kaena Point.

We then continued our equestrian-themed weekend with a trip to the Mokuleia Polo Fields.

Hazel was actually more interested in the puppies than the ponies.

Our friends, the Gillmans, met us at the match and their son was really excited about the horses.

Daddy and Hazel sharing a nutella crepe.  Yum!

Hazel stole a little boy's tractor and then made him push her on it! She's already got the boys wrapped around her finger!
Here she is dancing in the Polo field at half time.  She just loves to show off her moves!

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii

We had a busy Lei Day this year.

First, we went to see the animals in the zoo. Hazel was very excited to go to the zoo and kept saying "animals" and "zoo" all morning. Our first stop was the elephants. Hazel reaction was priceless and I am proud to say I captured it on film:

She was pretty jazzed about the tigers too.

This little pygmy goat was her favorite and she kept chasing him around the petting zoo.

After the zoo, we walked over to the Lei Day Celebration in Kapiolani park.  There was live music and fabulous hula which Hazel really enjoyed.

Of course, lei competition was absolutely beautiful. All of the lei are handmade with local flowers.

This one was the Mayor's choice.  I couldn't get close enough to show all of the detail, but each of those red "beads" is a rolled plumeria petal.

Afterwards, we went to Chinatown for a lovely rooftop pool party at the new Capitol Building.

Then we mingled around First Friday for a while.  Hazel met a puppy friend at the Chinatown Board Room.

Finally we headed for the homestead and Hazel passed out in the car.  Mommy and Daddy were able to curl up together, drink some wine, and watch The Darjeeling Limited.
