May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii

We had a busy Lei Day this year.

First, we went to see the animals in the zoo. Hazel was very excited to go to the zoo and kept saying "animals" and "zoo" all morning. Our first stop was the elephants. Hazel reaction was priceless and I am proud to say I captured it on film:

She was pretty jazzed about the tigers too.

This little pygmy goat was her favorite and she kept chasing him around the petting zoo.

After the zoo, we walked over to the Lei Day Celebration in Kapiolani park.  There was live music and fabulous hula which Hazel really enjoyed.

Of course, lei competition was absolutely beautiful. All of the lei are handmade with local flowers.

This one was the Mayor's choice.  I couldn't get close enough to show all of the detail, but each of those red "beads" is a rolled plumeria petal.

Afterwards, we went to Chinatown for a lovely rooftop pool party at the new Capitol Building.

Then we mingled around First Friday for a while.  Hazel met a puppy friend at the Chinatown Board Room.

Finally we headed for the homestead and Hazel passed out in the car.  Mommy and Daddy were able to curl up together, drink some wine, and watch The Darjeeling Limited.
