Hazel made her ono (delicious) granola for us yesterday. We love it so much, we thought that we would share the recipe with everyone!
1 cup chopped dry roasted macadamia nuts
1/4 cup toasted wheat germ
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup toasted pepita seeds
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded haupia (coconut)
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried papaya or dried pineapple
scant 1/4 cup cooking oil (not olive)
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup toasted pepita seeds
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded haupia (coconut)
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried papaya or dried pineapple
scant 1/4 cup cooking oil (not olive)
1/2 cup honey
- Mix the oat, nuts, coconut, and grains in a large bowl.
- Measure oil into the measuring cup.
- Then measure out the honey in the same, unwashed cup. The oil will help keep the honey from sticking to the cup.
- Stir everything together until evenly coated and then pour out into a baking pan.
- Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes, turning it with a spatula every ten minutes, until everything is an even golden brown.
- When it is finished cooking, returned the baked granola to the mixing bowl, add the raisins and papaya and stir to combine. Stir gently several times as it cools, so that it doesn't clump together too much.
Once it is completely cooled, store the granola in an airtight container. It ships well (better than cookies) and lasts for a few weeks (if it lasts that long).
Serve atop yogurt and fresh fruit, with milk, or just straight our of the jar.
Enjoy!
